I originally published this post in October 2025 with ambitious plans for the blog.
The blog has been quieter than intended, but the business certainly hasn’t.
Since then, I’ve been busy helping businesses with:
- Websites that need fixing, improving or completely rethinking
- Facebook and Google advertising
- Marketing strategies built around realistic budgets
- Business systems, technology and automation
- Turning enquiries into better, more profitable customers
- Finding practical answers when the usual advice doesn’t quite fit
In other words, client work had to come before writing about client work.
What’s coming
This blog will draw upon nearly 30 years of experience in marketing, business and technology, alongside what I’m learning from the real challenges businesses face today.
Expect articles covering:
- Marketing ideas smaller businesses can actually afford
- Straightforward website and WordPress advice
- Facebook and Google advertising without the hype
- Ways to use AI and technology more practically
- Honest lessons from real business problems
- Business strategy that goes beyond simply “getting more leads”
Written for busy business owners
There is already more than enough generic business content online.
My articles will be designed to be useful, credible and easy to skim, with:
- The important points clearly highlighted
- Three useful takeaways near the beginning
- Plain-English explanations
- My own analysis and opinion
- Practical actions you can take away
The aim is fewer throwaway articles and more content worth saving, sharing or returning to.
Is there something you’d like me to cover?
If you have a marketing, website, technology or wider business problem, let me know.
Your question could even become the subject of a future article.
The blog may have had a slow start. The ideas, experience and real-world work behind it certainly haven’t.
SBH_SW"Turning tight budgets into big results through Smarter Marketing & Tech." Cutting through the Noise; to Elevate you - the Small Business Underdog. ... Ensuring Decision Makers have clarity in Marketing and Technology. What I Do For over 20 years, I’ve helped Businesses (International and Micro), Charities and Local entrepreneurs to untangle confusion and make smarter decisions with their Time & Money. My work centres on: » Challenging assumptions (most failures come from misconceptions, or misaligned strategy; not bad ideas) » Clarifying direction so owners finally know what will actually work » Translating complex marketing into simple, actionable steps » Protecting budgets by avoiding the usual mistakes agencies overlook » Spotting hidden opportunities others routinely miss I built Small Business Helper as a values-led consultancy: » No outsourcing to cheap unknowns » No inflated agency layers ... Just one highly conscientious practitioner who treats every project like it matters — because it does. How I Work Clients often say: “Steve… no one’s ever explained it like this.” Because I focus on: » 'Insight-first' thinking (not “what do you want to do?” questionnaires) » Real-world strategy for £1m–£10m firms, one-man bands, and non-profits » Tools and suppliers I trust, including sustainable hosting and premium ecosystems » Practical, results-focused clarity over buzzwords. My promise is simple: "I care more than most, and it shows in the work." Why This Mission Matters I’ve lived through my wife's 4 near-death experiences (2007-2020) — and they sharpened my focus on doing work that actually helps people move forward, rebuild confidence, and make life a bit easier. Outside work, I’m a 50-year-old gamer who regularly beats younger players online, I'm a devoted Dad raising emotionally mature teens, and someone who understands overwhelm, resilience and starting again. In One Line (inc.Guarantee) I help small businesses see clearly, act confidently, and grow without the noise - I make your Marketing Spend far more profitable than you've experienced it to date - That's a guarantee!
